SHELL

SHELL

It is mainly composed of calcium carbonate (about 94 percent) and the rest is made up of other organic matter and proteins. The strength and resistance of the shell depends largely on minerals and vitamins in the diet of the hens, primarily calcium. The color comes from the pigment in the outer layers and ranges from white to dark brown. The type of hen determines the color of the shell.
